Privacy Policy

Location

Ask Pickles uses your device's location to find and recommend places near you. Each time you roll, your location is used to search for nearby spots and is then discarded. We do not store your location on our servers, we do not keep a history of where you've been, and we do not sell it.

Searches are performed using Apple's mapping services, which receive your approximate location in order to return nearby results. Your precise coordinates are never sent to our advertising or analytics providers.

You can turn location access off anytime in your phone's settings. The app will still work, but it can only offer general activity ideas rather than real places near you.

Information We Do Not Collect

You don't need an account to use the Ask Pickles app. We don't ask for your name, email, or phone number to use the app, and we don't collect demographic information like age, gender, income, or marital status.

Information You Give Us on Our Website

If you sign up on askpickles.app to be notified when the app launches, or contact us by email, we receive the name and email address you provide. We use that only to send you the update you asked for and to reply to you. We don't sell it, rent it, or share it with advertisers. You can ask us to delete it at any time by emailing [email protected].

This is separate from the app - using the app does not require or create any of this.

Favorites

If you save a place to Favorites, that place is stored on your device. It isn't uploaded to us, and it stays on your phone until you delete it or delete the app.

Advertising

The free version of Ask Pickles shows ads, served through Google (AdMob). To show ads, ad providers may collect limited device and usage information, such as a device identifier, IP address, and general app activity. An approximate location (city or region level) can be inferred from an IP address. This is governed by Google's privacy policy. A paid subscription removes ads.

We do not track you across other companies' apps or websites. Ask Pickles does not ask for permission to track you.

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you will be asked for your advertising choices before any ad loads. You can change that choice at any time in the app under Settings, Ad Privacy.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics for Firebase to understand how the app is used so we can improve it. This tells us things like how many people use Ask Pickles, which categories are rolled most often, and whether rolls are returning real places or general ideas.

What we send: the category you rolled (food, date night, entertainment, or things to do) and whether the result was a real venue or a general idea. Firebase also automatically collects standard technical information such as device model, operating system, app version, session activity, and an app instance identifier, along with an approximate country or region derived from your network connection.

We never send your coordinates, your address, the specific places you're shown, or anything that identifies you personally.

Subscriptions

Subscriptions are processed by Apple through the App Store. Apple handles your payment; we do not receive or store your credit card or payment details. Apple tells us only whether an active subscription exists for your Apple Account so we can unlock Pickles Plus features. You can manage or cancel your subscription anytime in your Apple Account settings.

Device & Usage Information

We (and the ad and service providers we use) may receive basic technical information such as device type, operating system, app version, and general usage activity, to keep the app working and improve it.

How We Share Information

We don't sell your personal information. We share limited information only with the service providers that make the app work - Apple (mapping, places, and payments), and Google (ads and analytics) - and when required by law.

Your Choices and Rights

• Location: turn it off anytime in your phone's settings.
• Ads: subscribe to Pickles Plus to remove them entirely. You can also reset your device's advertising identifier in iOS settings.
• Website signups: email us and we'll delete your name and address from our list.

Depending on where you live - including California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, and other states with privacy laws - you may have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information we hold about you, and to be free from discrimination for exercising those rights. Because the app collects so little, in most cases there is nothing tied to you personally for us to retrieve. To make a request, email [email protected].

Children's Privacy

Ask Pickles is for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child provided us information, contact us at [email protected].

Security

We use reasonable safeguards to protect the limited information involved. No system is 100% secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security.

International Users

Ask Pickles LLC is based in the United States, and information is processed in the United States. The app is available in the App Store in many countries; if you use it from outside the U.S., you consent to your information being processed in the U.S., where privacy laws may differ from those in your country.

Changes to This Notice

We may update this notice as the app adds features. When we do, we'll revise the date above.
